A competency-based curriculum (CBC) is used new curriculum used in Kenya to deliver learning and evaluate the strenghts and weaknesses of learners. It is under this system where each learner's progress is monitored over a period of 2-6-3-3 years divided into three major levels of education.

Learners will be graded as follows:
Learners enters pre-primary school for two years where they passes through PP1 and PP2.
Learning Areas In PP1 and PP2
At lower primary, learning is divided into grades 1,2 and 3 as it is a continuation of child's early years of education.
The expected learner's ages in this level of education is as follows:
Grade 3 normally does KNEC at the final years after being registered for it.
This includes grades 4,5 and 6 and the expected learners age is 9,10 and 11 years.
Learning Subjects in Upper primaryThis level of education has been categorised it grades 7,8 and 9 years.
The expected learners ages is 11,12 and 13.
Learning subjects in Junior SecondaryThis level of education has been divided into grades 10,11 and 12years..
The expected learners ages is 14,15 and 16 years.
Learning Subjects in Senior SecondaryThis level of education is where students are given a chance to specialize in their areas of interest and at the same time taking core subjects irrespective of the career pathway.
